Founded by Tyler Smith and William Brown, Maple Shade Millwork LLC was established to deliver professional, on‑time millwork solutions for projects of all sizes. Responding to industry challenges, inefficient production, poor communication, and costly rework; the partners combined deep field experience with investment in modern technology and lean manufacturing practices. The result is a company built on transparent communication, streamlined production, and cost‑effective solutions tailored to each client’s needs.
Tyler Smith
Tyler Smith holds a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management and Engineering Technology from SUNY College of Technology at Alfred State. With over 15 years of experience in commercial construction and millwork manufacturing, he is co‑founder of Maple Shade Millwork LLC alongside William Brown, bringing deep expertise in project delivery and shop management.
A former general contractor, Tyler emphasizes clear scopes and bids, thorough submittals, effective communication, and on‑time delivery. He is committed to providing contractors and owners with a transparent, professionally managed project experience.
My Story
Tyler Smith is a sixth‑generation farmer and co‑owner/operator of Smithome Farms in Big Flats, NY. Raised on the family farm, he developed a strong work ethic that has informed his academic and professional pursuits.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management and Engineering Technology from SUNY College of Technology at Alfred State. Tyler began his career as a quality control technician, advanced to field supervisor performing laboratory and onsite material inspections, and progressed into general construction project management and estimating—overseeing projects from renovations to ground‑up construction. Transitioning to commercial millwork, he applied his project management expertise to modernize shop processes, streamline submittals, and navigate the complexities of Upstate New York construction.
Tyler’s millwork credentials include operating wood manufacturing equipment, managing hundreds of projects, completing multiple AWI QCP‑certified projects, and drafting with AutoCAD and Microvellum; he ultimately served as senior project manager and lead detailer. He is now co‑founder of Maple Shade Millwork LLC in Elmira, NY, delivering a professional, modern approach to commercial millwork across the region.

William Brown (Billy) holds an M.S. in Education from Elmira College and transitioned directly into the commercial millwork industry after graduation. Over more than a decade, he has progressed from delivery driver to CNC operator, head machine technician, and senior detailer, and now serves in a leadership role at Maple Shade Millwork LLC alongside business partner Tyler Smith.
With extensive hands‑on experience and advanced drafting and machinery expertise, William combines practical shop-floor skills with technology-driven capabilities to ensure efficient production and consistently high-quality custom millwork.
My Story
William Brown holds dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Mathematics and Special Education (7–12) from Niagara University and a Master of Science in Education from Elmira College. While completing graduate studies, he entered the millwork industry and developed a passion for commercial cabinetry and custom manufacturing.
He began his career on the shop floor, gaining hands‑on experience across all stages of production, including sanding, staining, cabinet preparation, assembly, and delivery. Demonstrating strong mechanical aptitude and commitment, he progressed to operating key production equipment such as CNC routers and edgebanders.
William’s technical expertise grew to encompass machine diagnostics, repair coordination, parts sourcing, and preventative maintenance. Leveraging his combined shop experience and technical knowledge, he transitioned into programming and drafting for commercial millwork projects of varying scale.
Over more than a decade in the industry, William has accumulated comprehensive experience across every facet of millwork operations, integrating practical shop‑floor skills with advanced programming and production-technology capabilities. His uncommon blend of craftsmanship, machinery expertise, and technology-driven problem solving contributes significantly to efficient workflows and the delivery of high‑quality commercial millwork projects.
